Nuclear Skills Delivery Board welcomes investment in future nuclear workforce

The Nuclear Skills Delivery Board (NSDB) has welcomed the government’s latest announcement on boosting jobs and apprenticeships to help build the nuclear workforce of the future.

Today (March 25) the UK government announced further plans for the sector, which include investment to help create more than 5,000 new apprenticeships over the next four years and ensure the sector has the talent needed to fill 40,000 new jobs by 2030.

Following this announcement, the Nuclear Skills Strategy Group (NSSG) will become the Nuclear Skills Delivery Group (NSDG), which will drive day-to-day delivery of the National Nuclear Strategic Plan for Skills and will be led by the NSDB.

Stakeholders from across UK nuclear have already collaborated to launch Destination Nuclear, a national campaign to attract people to the sector and a single recruitment portal to raise awareness of the wide range of roles available.

The NSDB’s newly-appointed Nuclear Skills Programme Director, Beccy Pleasant, said:

"Today’s announcement marks an exciting new chapter for the UK nuclear sector.

"The sector is set for unprecedented growth and the need for more people and skills is already affecting employers.

"The announcement of this important investment from government and industry will allow us to put in place the programme of activities to tackle these challenges."

Co-chair of the NSDG, Julie Morris OBE, said:

"It’s fantastic to see the efforts of the Nuclear Skills  Taskforce come to fruition and lead to a tangible, funded plan to address the skills challenges facing the nuclear sector.

"Today’s announcement marks a major step forward in delivering the nuclear workforce of the future."
